Zearalenone Zearalenone is a mycotoxin produced by mold of the Fusarium species , such as F. Graminearum, in the same way as deoxynivalenol. It mainly occurs in grains and crop products. Contrary to other mycotoxins, it is not acutely toxic but represents a problem due to its estrogenic effects on mammals. Recently, regulatory limits for Zearalenone in foods were introduced by the European Union. Some countries have also published recommendations for zearalenone in animal feed. As with all mycotoxines, correct sampling is crucial to the quality of the analysis results. At Quantas Analytics there are two methods to determine zearalenone: Fast screening using ELISA technology and high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection as reference method. |
