Ochratoxins

Ochratoxin A is a mycotoxin produced by mold of the Aspergillus and Penicilium species, such as A. ochraceus or P. viridicatum.

It occurs in very different foods, including crops, coffee, dried fruits and red wine. It is suspected to cause cancer in humans and is of special interest, as it has been proven to form residue in meat and thus in meat products.

Regulatory limits for various foods have been established in many countries worldwide, also in the European Union. As sampling mycotoxins causes many problems, instructions are also provided for correct sampling.

Quantas Analytics provides two methods for determining this mycotoxin:
Fast screening using ELISA technology on the one hand and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection, which is available as reference method, on the other hand.
