Fast screening using ELISA To satisfy the need for quick screening at low cost, we offer ELISA detection. ELISA is the acronym for Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay. This technology is based on the reaction of selective antibodies with mycotoxins present in a sample. In simpler words, the antibody toxin reaction leads to a colour reaction that correlates with the concentration of the toxin in the sample. The colour is measured by a photometer and the concentration of a certain mycotoxin in the sample can be determined by means of a calibration. This type of quick test has improved dramatically over the past years and results obtained with an ELISA kit are very reliable now. But some facts still have to be taken into account when evaluating the results: the quality of the results depends on the quality of the antibodies used in the kit. Antibodies can be cross-reactive: the result can be the sum of very similar molecules in the sample. The result of a DON-ELISA, for instance, can be influenced by the presence of 3-Acetyldeoxynivalenol in this sample. Additionally, very complex matrices, which the test has not been validated for, might negatively affect the result. We therefore offer screening methods mainly for raw components and we recommend silages and other complex mixtures to always be analysed using our reference methods.. |
